Food systems consist of entities formed by food production, processing, logistics, marketing, sales, consumption, effects on wellbeing and utilisation of byproducts as well as related operators, chains and networks. Food systems include flow of funds and substances, technology, work and activities, physical environments as well as people and their know-how.
Food system companies operate in dozens of different fields and their interfaces, such as production, logistics and environmental technology industries, the food industry as well as trades and services. Successful companies that produce solutions for food systems should have solid knowledge of the unique biological, technical and social aspects of the field.
